Hi there!  It's been a long time since I have posted here on Sample & Poole.  Today the Ole Miss Rebels are taking on the South Carolina Gamecocks and looking to increase their football winning record to 3-0.  Everyone is excited.  We are going to watch the game at Bret & Lindsay Beauchamp's house in Nottinghill.  We will see if JoJo can stay up that late.  Doubtful.

Here is the latest, greatest listing in O-Town.  910 Augusta Drive #601, 3BR/2BTH, 1800SQFT, $245,000

OXFORD

Oxford has a new restaurant.  Snack Bar, owned by Chef John Currence (City Grocery, Boure, Big Bad Breakfast), is a great new restaurant located next to Big Bad Breakfast in the Mid Town shopping center.  It is actually located in the old Market Rhes location (sad), but we are glad the space has been filled with another locally owned business.  Snack Bar serves southern foods and is Oxford’s only raw oyster bar.  Congratulations to Chef John Currence who just won a James Beard Award for Best Chef: South.  Woohoo!

OLE MISS/SPORTS

As another school year winds down, students are studying for exams and making plans for the summer and some students are making plans for their future just like any old year.  However, this year is different in that we are saying goodbye to the head of our University.  Robert Khayat is retiring this summer and he will be missed like no other.  He has done more than anyone could have ever imagined and more in his 14 years of service.  Last Thursday, the University said goodbye to the Chancellor with a gathering in the Grove and celebration at the Ford Center.  One of the Chancellor’s good friends, Marty Stuart, performed a song that he wrote about the Chancellor.  I may be partial to this wonderful man and a bit sentimental, but I teared-up listening to the song.  It is truly beautiful.  Take a listen…

I have started this blog to keep those of you who are interested up-to-date on what is going on in the town of Oxford, on the Ole Miss Campus and in the Lafayette County real estate world.  Because I have a sixth month old boy named JoJo, I will probably only be able to blog about once a week.  So, to make sure you don’t miss an entry, subscribe to my blog to the left of this page.  Here is a picture of JoJo for those of you who have not met him.

Oxford Town

The biggest event of the year in Oxford is this weekend on the Square.  The Double Decker Arts Festival comes to town Saturday morning, April 25, 2009 and lasts all day.  The day is filled with good food, art and music.  You don’t want to miss it.  I am excited because two of my friends are coming to Oxford and bringing their babies.

Ole Miss/Sports

This past weekend was the Red & Blue Game.  We were all glad that the predicted forecast turned out to be wrong.  No rain fell on the Grove Bowl and some people even saw some sunshine.  My husband was there and had a great time talking and chatting with people about how great the Rebs are going to be this fall.  He has once again predicted a National Championship.  Here he is letting Greg Hardy know we are going to the big game next year.

For those of you who are interested in what the Lexington Brothers are up to…here they are from their latest show at the Belzoni Catfish Festival.  They were the last ones to play the festival.   Normally the biggest crowds come for the last band, however, this was not the case two Saturdays ago.  Despite a small crowd and a MSU scowler, the Lexington Brothers remained spirited about Ole Miss sports and classic country.

Oxford and Ole Miss are going ahead as planned in preparation for the first 2008 Presidential Debate tomorrow night.  Here is a snapshot of the inside of the Gertrude Ford Center, the debate venue.

Just got word they are doing a mock debate inside the Ford Center.  Here is another picture.
